Join the Small Town Boys Community Cast!
Are you passionate about sharing LGBTQ+ history? Do you tear up the dance floor on a night out, and wonder if you could take that to the stage? Over 18 and based in Dundee?
If yes, you may be the perfect fit for our Small Town Boys community cast!
Choregraphed by Shaper/Caper’s multi-award-winning choreographer and Artistic Director, Thomas Small, ‘Small Town Boys’ transports us back to the days of the 1980s AIDS crisis, exploring its impact on queer communities both then and now. Through contemporary dance and verbatim spoken word, ‘Small Town Boys’ gives a voice to the silenced and breathes life back into forgotten memories of the time. The show features a soundtrack from the 1980s and will be performed in nightclub spaces by 6 dancers alongside a community cast.
As a member of the community cast, we don’t need you to have years of dance experience (or any) — you’ll receive training and resources to make sure everyone is as confident as they can be on the day, so what we really want to see is people passionate about having a part in sharing LGBTQ+ history, and willing to try something new!
Participants will need to be able to commit to a total of 6 rehearsals between April and July, and a minimum of 3 out of 6 performances between 8th -12th August. While this is a volunteer role, Shaper/Caper will aim to cover community cast travel subject to successful fundraising.
