Dundee Contemporary Arts are thrilled to welcome producer Siobhan Fahey to DCA Cinema for a live Q&A discussion after the screening.

Rebel Dykes arrives at DCA in all its ass-kicking, leather-wearing glory! This acclaimed documentary tells the story of a group of women who created a community around the first lesbian fetish club in the world, London’s Chain Reaction.

“…exuberant and inspiring”

The Dykes first met at Greenham Common in the 1980s, where they stood out as rebels and daring activists before converging on Brixton’s squatting scene. Taking over women’s centres and gay bars to create a vibrant musical and artistic underground, the group's SM club grew into a close polyamorous community. This brought outcry from mainstream feminists, and the Chain Reaction Dykes were forced to defend themselves against accusations of anti-feminism, violence and more.

This is an extraordinarily privileged glimpse into a bygone world by those who not only lived out their politics with heartfelt conviction but lived to tell the tale. Combining animation, archive footage and interviews, Rebel Dykes is an exuberant and inspiring big screen experience that you won't forget in a hurry.
